Meet Maura
Maura McCarthy Bulman is the proud mother of four children attending Broward County Public Schools in District 1, a local attorney, a community volunteer and a longtime resident of the great City of Hollywood.
After graduating from college at Miami University in Ohio, Maura served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in central Jamaica where she met her husband, a fellow volunteer, and together they created and operated a grant-funded ecotourism service bringing school children and community members to amazing places throughout the island that they would not otherwise have had the opportunity to visit and explore. After returning from Jamaica, Maura attended the University of Alabama School of Law where she received a Public Interest Law Grant and participated in various legal clinics that served the underprivileged in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the surrounding areas. After graduating from law school, Maura moved to Hollywood, Florida and began her legal career at Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc, where she worked as a housing litigation attorney for three years protecting and defending the rights of low-income tenants and homeowners. Since 2009, Maura has worked as a solo practitioner attorney focusing on business and real estate transactions and litigation. Maura previously served as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem advocating for children in Broward County, on the Board of Directors of the Broward Healthy Start Coalition and as an instructor at Broward College in their paralegal program.
Maura serves on the board of directors of the Hollywood Central Elementary PTA, and as the School Advisory Forum (SAF) Chair from Hollywood Central Elementary and Attucks Middle School.
Maura has four wonderful children attending schools at every level in Broward County - elementary, middle, and high school. Because Maura is entrusting the education of her four children to our Broward County Public Schools, she is fully invested in making sure our schools work for everyone, and is committed to doing what it takes to make sure all of our children receive a high-quality public school education.
Maura is uniquely qualified as an advocate, negotiator and problem solver to represent the people of District 1 on the Broward County School Board and will tirelessly fight to obtain the best results for our District 1 community.

With four children currently attending Broward County Public Schools in District 1, Maura McCarthy Bulman knows first hand how our entire community benefits from stronger public education - and how efforts to weaken our public schools threaten to damage the future of our home. That is why she is running to secure our future on the Broward County School Board.
As a mother, local attorney, community volunteer, and longtime resident of Hollywood, Florida, Maura is a leader who has the experience and ability to advocate for and work with the people of District 1 to ensure that our schools are the best they can be for our students, teachers, and community.
Maura believes that education is the most important and effective way to empower and to ensure the ongoing success of the members of our community. She believes that our students greatly benefit from having the freedom to learn and explore a vast variety of ideas, subjects and perspectives. Our students should have the tools to form their own values and belief systems as they prepare to be our future leaders, and we need a School Board that fights against attacks on public education.
Maura appreciates and admires the difficult and outstanding work performed by our teachers as they give their hearts and souls to educate and support our students every day despite the challenges they face. Our teachers deserve a fighter who recognizes the demands of teaching in a changing environment and who will do what it takes to raise teachers’ pay and take the action needed to retain and attract the excellent teachers that are the backbone of our schools so we can achieve our goal of being an “A” school district and the top school district in the State of Florida.
Maura recognizes the important role that our schools play in our neighborhood. Our local schools not only educate and enrich our students, but are a gathering place for our local communities where proud alumni return to watch athletic competitions, and music, drama and dance performances. Schools are a bedrock of the community that allows neighbors of all ages to learn and grow together.
Maura supports and respects the ongoing efforts to make our schools safe and secure. We must continue to build on these efforts in order to maximize the safety and security of all of our students, teachers, staff members, volunteers and visitors at all times, at every Broward County Public School. Our School Board has a responsibility to provide peace of mind to anyone who has a loved one attending, working, volunteering or visiting our schools.
Maura is passionate about promoting the great things happening in our public schools and attracting students to our schools at every available opportunity.
Maura is committed to transparency, accountability, efficiency and fiscal responsibility in our school system.
Maura recognizes the role that maintaining good mental health plays in the ability of our students to thrive and achieve. She recognizes the need to provide access to a variety of mental health services and support in our schools so our students can find motivation and purpose both in school and as they navigate the wider world.
